Ferritin Whole Blood Serum Plasma Test Kit/Cassette/Strip for Decting Anemia with CE Marked
Ferritin is a ubiquitous intracellular protein that stores and releases iron in a controlled manner. Plasma ferritin is an indirect marker of the total amount of iron stored in the body. Therefore, serum ferritin is used as a diagnostic test for iron deficiency anemia.
Normal blood ferritin levels, called reference intervals, are determined by many testing laboratories. Ferritin is a major iron storage protein in most tissues. Human ferritin has a molecular weight of about 450,000 daltons and consists of a protein shell surrounding an iron core. Each ferritin molecule may contain as many as 4000 iron atoms. Under normal circumstances, this may represent 25% of the total iron found in the body. In addition, ferritin can be found in several isoforms. If ferritin levels are low, there is a risk of iron deficiency, which can lead to anemia. Low ferritin may also suggest hypothyroidism, vitamin C deficiency, or celiac disease. Some patients with restless legs syndrome have reduced serum ferritin levels, which are not necessarily related to anemia and may be due to reduced iron stores due to lack of anemia.
